Carolina Mavericks Youth Lacrosse Club is based out of Chapel Hill and is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of young athletes through positive coaching. We offer a range of opportunities, including travel teams, skills development programs, and clinics. With a focus on elevating lacrosse IQ and taking skills to the next level, our approach ensures that players receive top-notch experiences, highly organized practices, and specialized skills development sessions. At Carolina Mavericks, we believe in the fusion of fun and winning, providing a unique and rewarding journey for our aspiring lacrosse players.

Youth Program Director

Kevin Unterstein
Kevin Unterstein brings over 15 years of experience in professional lacrosse and Division I athletics. As a former professional player for Atlas, Redwoods, and a Team USA Gold Medalist, Kevin understands the demands of elite competition. Currently, he serves as the Defensive Coordinator for Duke University Men's Lacrosse and the PLL New York Atlas, combining his extensive playing background with a successful coaching and recruiting career.

Head Coach - High School 

Spencer Wirtheim 

Spencer played attack at both Cornell and the University of North Carolina, bringing high-level collegiate experience to our program. A U.S. Lacrosse All-American out of Baldwinsville, NY, he was a key contributor at Cornell before finishing his career at UNC. Spencer combines a high lacrosse IQ with a passion for developing players on and off the field.

Recruiting Coordinator Anthony Munoz

Originally from Warrenton, Virginia, Anthony played four years at Walsh University in Ohio and earned a degree in exercise science. He’s spent the past two years as a graduate assistant coach at Averett University while earning his MBA, and is currently coaching there and working on campus as a student success coach. He’ll be a fantastic resource for families navigating the recruiting process.

We’re looking for driven athletes ready to push their game to the next level. Carolina Mavericks offers elite coaching by Division 1 lacrosse players, giving you the tools, training, and guidance to excel on and off the field.

Fall Skills and Drills

8 sessions focused on learning lacrosse fundamentals.  This is an excellent opportunity for players of all levels. The sessions cover all aspects of the game, shooting techniques, stick handling, defensive strategies, and team communication.  

Ages: 1st- 8th grade

Dates: TBD

Equipment: Helmet, pads, gloves, stick

We are looking for lacrosse players who are focused and driven with a passion to play and a love for the game. Respectful young men both on and off the playing field.

We are based out of Chapel Hill and practice locally.  

Travel Teams 

Full Season is 9 months with 6 tournaments. 

The Fall season runs September-November and Spring/ Summer season runs April - June . Each season will have two practices a week and a minimum of 3  tournaments.
